uncertan being now but weake and feeble in body but of perfect memory
praised be god for the same do make this my last will and testyment
in manner and form following,
first I Comitt my souel to god hopeing by the pretioues
blood sheding of his son Jesus Christ to have free Remityon of all
my sins and as for my worldly estate I dispose theareof as followeth
first I do heareby Revoke and make voied all former
wills by me hearetofore made and further

son Thomas KNOWLES of mallam and to his heiers and Asigns for Ever
all my houesis oute howsis Lands and leaesis of lands sheepgates Cattlegates
barns buldings quik gods houes howld goods bills bonds and my Estate
both Reael and persanall whatever is or was apertaiening unto me the
saied James KNOWLES upon condishon that the said Thomas KNOWLES my
son shall pay unto my daughter tomasin within one yeaere next after
my death the sum of ten shillings and sixpence shee giving a reciete
for her Respective legasi

Chilldren of my daughter tomasins five pownds apees to be paied as
the Respectively ataien the adge of twenty one yeaers and if any one
shall hapen to dye befoaer the Come to that adge the legasy or legasies

Do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in Manner and
fform following, that is to say, ffirst
I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my Son Richard
KNOWLES his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns
All my two Messuages or Dwelling Houses situate
near the May Poll at the Bottom of the Green in Malham East aforesaid
together with the Barn Stable Turfhouse and all other the Outbuildings
thereto adjoyning and belonging,
And also two Gardens one Orchard and two Closes
of Ground called by the Names of the Higher Croft and Lower Croft
to the said Messuages or Dwelling Houses also adjoyning and belonging,
And also all that Close or Meadow Ground situate
lying and being in Malham East aforesaid commonly called or known
by the Name of Stangs,
And also all that little Wood in the Township
of Malham East aforesaid called Gordell,
And also all the Tythe of Corn and Grain growing
in and upon all that Town ffield situate lying and being in Malham
East aforesaid called Garbreads,
And also one Beastgate or Cattlegate or the Herbage
and Grassing for one full made Beast in upon and throughout all that
Stinted pasture in Malham East aforesaid called Cawden, and the Soil
and ground thereof,
And also Ten Sheep Gates or the Herbage and Grassing
for Ten Sheep in upon and over all that Stinted pasture in Malham
East aforesaid called Malham Lings, And the Ground and Soil thereof,
And also two Beastgates or Cattlegates or the Herbage and Grassing
for two full made Beasts in upon and over all that Stinted pasture
in Malham East aforesaid called New Close, together with the Soil
and Ground thereof,
And all my Estate Right Title and Interest in
and to all the above mentioned premisses and every part thereof
with the Appurtenances be the same ffreehold or Leasehold, To hold
so much and such part of the above mentioned premisses as are ffreehold
to and to the Use of the said Richard KNOWLES his Heirs and Assigns
for ever and Such as are Leasehold to and to the Use of the said Richard
KNOWLES his Executors Administrators and Assigns for the remainder
of all such Term and Terms for years as I shall at the Time of my
Decease have to come therein,
And my Will and mind is and I do hereby Order and Direct that my said
son Richard KNOWLES shall pay out of the above mentioned premisses
by me Given and Devised to him as aforesaid All my ffuneral Expences,
and the Charges and Expences in and about Proving this my Will.
And also I do hereby Give and Bequeath unto my
said Son Richard KNOWLES all my Husbandry Geers and Impliments for
Husbandry of what nature and kind soever which I shall happen to be
possessed of at the Time of my Decease.
Also I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my three
Daughters Ann the Wife of Bernard PRESTON, Mary KNOWLES and Rosamund
KNOWLES, their respective Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns,
equally to be divided amongst them,
All those several Closes and parcels of Ground
in Malham East aforesaid called by the several names following (that
is to say) The Bunby Close, the Cnoss Green Close, A parcel of Land
in an Open ffield called Middle Tongue commonly called the Middle
Tongue Dale, Another parcel of Land in an Open ffield called Cross
Green containing by common Estimation about ffive Roods be the same
more or less, The ffoorse Close, the Duckgells Close, The Midgehole
Close, The High Hawthorn and Low Hawthorn Closes, The Burn Dales with
a Barn therein standing,
And also all that Barn in Malham East called the
New Laith, Also Thirty Sheepgates or Herbage and Grasses for thirty
Sheep in over and upon all that Stinted pasture called Malham Lings,
with the Ground and Soil thereof, Two Beastgates or Cattle gates or
Herbage and Grassing for two full made Beasts in over and upon all
that stinted pasture called New Close, with the Soil and Ground thereof,
Six Beastgates or Cattlegates or Herbage and Grassing for six full
made Beasts in over and upon all that Stinted pasture called Crossfield,
and two Beastgates or Cattlegates or Herbage and Grassing for two
full made Beasts in over and upon all that stinted pasture called
Malham Weets, together with the Soil and Ground thereof respectively,
all which last mentioned closes pieces and parcels of Land Gattlegates
and premisses are situate Lying and being in the Township Townfields
precincts and Territories of Malham aforesaid, And also all my right
Title Interest and Estate in and to all the last above mentioned premisses
with the Appurtenances,
To hold so much and such part of the above said premisses
as are ffreehold to and to the Use of them the said Ann the Wife of
Bernard PRESTON, Mary KNOWLES and Rosamund KNOWLES, their respective
Heirs and Assignes for ever, and such of the last above said premisses
as are Leasehold to and to the Use of them the said Ann the Wife of
Bernard PRESTON, Mary KNOWLES and Rosamund KNOWLES, their respective
Executors Administrators and Assignes, for the remainder of all such
Term and Terms for Years as I shall at the Time of my Decease have
to come therein respectively,
And my Will and Mind is, and I do hereby Order
and direct, that they the said Ann PRESTON, Mary KNOWLES and Rosamund
KNOWLES, their respective Heirs Executors or Administrators,
shall payout of the above mentioned Premisses by me given and
Devised to them as aforesaid, All the Debts, Sum and Sums of Money,
which I shall justly owe and be indebted to any person or persons
whatsoever, and I do hereby Charge all the said last mentioned premisses
with the Payment thereof accordingly
And also I Give and Bequeath to my said three Daughters
Ann PRESTON, Mary KNOWLES & Rosamund KNOWLES, All my Household
Goods and furniture of what kind soever, which I shall be possessed
of at the Time of my Decease, to be equally divided amongst them share
and share alike
All the rest residue and remainder of my Real
and Personal Estate, Moneys, and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever,
not herein by me otherwise disposed of (if any there be) I Give Devise
and Bequeath unto my said Son Richard KNOWLES and my said Three Daughters
Ann the Wife of Bernard PRESTON, Mary KNOWLES and Rosamund KNOWLES
their respective Heirs Executors Administrator and Assigns to be equally
divided amongst them share and share alike
And I do hereby Nominate Constitute and appoint my
said Son Richard KNOWLES and and my Three Daughters Ann PRESTON, Mary
KNOWLES and Rosamund KNOWLES, joint Executor and Executrixes of this
my Will,
And Lastly I do hereby revoke all former and other
Wills by me made, and declare this to be my last Will and Testament,
in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Twenty
first Day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred
and sixty seven

Malham in the parish of Kirkby in Malhamdale in the County of
York Widow. Do this Seventh Day of July in the year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred and eighty four make publish and declare
my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to
say)
Whereas my late Husband Marmaduke KNOWLES
Did in and by his Last Will and Testament (amongst other Legacys
and Bequests therein mentioned) Give and Bequeath unto me the Yearly
Interest of Five Hundred pounds (being part of the principal Money
which was then due and owing to him from one Thomas LISTER Esquire
on Bond) for and during the Term of my natural Life with a power for
me to dispose of the said principal Sum of Five Hundred pounds at
my Death to and amongst his Children in such manner as I should think
proper,
Now therefore I do hereby in pursuance of my said
late Husbands Will Give and Bequeath the same principal Sum of
Five Hundred pounds with all Interest to grow and become due for the
same from the Time of my decease unto my Three Sons and Daughter (to
wit) Robert Duke Matthew and Elizabeth KNOWLES (being all the
Children of my said late Husband Marmaduke KNOWLES deceased) the
same to be equally divided amongst them share and Share alike, And
as to all my plate Household Goods and ffurniture Moneys Securitys
for Money and all other my personal Estate Substance and Effects whatsoever
and wheresoever not herein by me other wise disposed of (after
paying thereout all my just Debts ffuneral Expences and the Expences
of proving this my Will, which I hereby order and direct to be
paid as soon as conveniently may be after my Decease)
I Give and Bequeath the same and every part thereof
unto my said Daughter Elizabeth KNOWLES to be disposed of as She thinks
proper And Lastly I do hereby Nominate constitute and appoint
my said Daughter Elizabeth KNOWLES sole Executrix of this my Will
and do revoke all former and other Will or Wills by me made, and Declare
this only to be my Last Will and Testament, In Witness whereof I have
hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Day and year above written
