Malhamdale Hearse
Many years ago, there existed a horse drawn hearse which was kept in the Hearse House on the north side of Kirkby Malham church. It was featured in two paintings by William Shackleton of the funerals of John Chester and Bernard Swinbank in 1916. Two engraved glass panes reputed to have come from the hearse when it was broken up, have recently been donated to the Museum of North Craven Life (see attached photos).
Does anyone have any information about the hearse?
