Calton

CALTON, a township in that part of the parish ofKIRKBY in MALHAM-DALE which is in the eastern division of the wapentake of STAINCLIFFE and EWEROSS,Westriding of the county of YORK, 7 miles (S. E. by E.) from Settle, containing 76 inhabitants. There is a school"with a small endowment". This is the birthplace of Major-General Lambert, one of the principal parliamentary leaders in the civil war.
